Ocean Dunes Golf Course located on the majestic west coast of King Island, facing the Great Southern Ocean is ranked 4th on the list of Australia’s Best Public Courses.
The course has spectacular unsurpassed view along 2km of coastal frontage, rolling dunes, 6 holes adjacent to the Southern Ocean, with signature 4th and 10th par 3’s one shot holes playing over the wild coast.
Course features include coastal Marram and Rushes, wildlife includes wallabies, peacocks, sea eagles and black swans among many others.
The green is framed by the ocean and rocks and rolling white surf. It is a wonderful golf hole, and an exciting way to start the round.
The Ocean Dunes golf course is aptly named based on the characteristics of the course’s location among the windswept sand dunes.
Designed by Graeme Grant, Ocean Dunes opened two years after Cape Wickham to create two of the best courses within close proximity of each other in the world and perhaps the best 36 hole day in the Southern Hemisphere. Ocean Dunes golf links is reminiscent of the great Irish and Scottish links golf courses, despite only opening for play in 2017.
The Ocean Dunes golf club has a clubhouse, bar and pro shop, all with ocean views located just five minutes from the airport and the main town of Currie.
If you’re keen to test your skill on King Island, don’t skip Ocean Dunes over Cape Wickham. While Wickham may reign supreme, Ocean Dunes is a fascinating layout that should definitely be on your ‘must-play’ list.
